The Core Pre-Deployment Training Materials (CPTM) Training of Trainers (ToT) Course commenced at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen. The course sponsored and supported by The United Nations Integrated Training Service (UN ITS) and British Peace Support Team-Africa (BPST-A) aims to equip national military and police trainers with the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver pre-deployment training to their respective personnel, including contingent troops and formed police units.
CPTM 5
The course ensures a shared understanding of UN peacekeeping principles, guidelines, and policies, aligning with the CPTM standards. It supports Member States in preparing uniformed personnel for effective participation in UN peace operations through regional training of trainers’ programmes.

The UN Integrated Training Service (UN ITS) Team Leader, Training Policy & Standards Team, Lotta Hagman emphasized that the course contains essential knowledge for peacekeeping personnel and provides a shared understanding of the basic principles, guidelines and policies of UN peacekeeping.

The Commandant Peace and Conflict Studies School (PCSS), Colonel E W Ngigi highlighted the importance of the training stating, β€œThis initiative is not just an updateβ€”it is a reaffirmation of IPSTC’s commitment to ensuring that peacekeepers are well-prepared to face the dynamic challenges of modern peace support operations. The course has 24 participants from 16 countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Malawi, Burundi, Tanzania, Morocco, Tunisia, Zambia, Senegal, Egypt, Cameroon, Liberia, Rwanda, Uganda and Ethiopia.

The United Nations Peacekeeping- Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (PKISR) Course was officially inaugurated on 3 March 2025 at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC) in Karen. The opening ceremony was graced by the Regional Security Coordinator at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Kenya, Mr. Ismael Moalem.

In his address, Mr. Moalem highlighted the importance of security and safety as fundamental pillars for progress and development, emphasizing that a stable and secure environment is crucial for fostering growth and prosperity. He urged participants to actively apply the knowledge and skills they acquire, emphasizing that their efforts would play a vital role in enhancing security and fostering development in their respective areas.
UNPKISR 2
Commandant PCSS, Colonel E W Ngigi, in her remark, expressed sincere gratitude to the sponsors of the course, the Government of Netherlands, for funding the vital training. She welcomed the participants and informed them that the training seeks to equip them with relevant knowledge and skills to effectively work in United Nations (UN) PSO intelligence cells.

The UN PKISR course has attracted 20 participants drawn from Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Zambia. The opening ceremony was also attended by the Defence AttachΓ©, Netherlands, Colonel Jeroen Van Der Nol, and other distinguished mentors.

On February 10, 2025, Exercise Justified Accord kicked off at the Humanitarian Peace Support School. The Opening ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Training Defence Headquarters, Brigadier P. K. Koech.

In his speech, Brigadier Koech emphasized that the exercise is a vital step in strengthening collective readiness, improving the ability to respond to complex situations, and fostering deeper cooperation. He added that the training will enhance both global and regional collaboration and enable partners to build combined preparedness.

During the opening ceremony, the Kenya-United States (US) Liaison Office Chief Lt Col Trish Basile emphasized the significance of Justified Accord as U.S. Africa Command’s largest military exercise in East Africa. She highlighted that the exercise goes beyond training, serving as a platform to strengthen partnerships, enhance interoperability, and prepare for real-world challenges together.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including the Commandant HPSS, representatives from the Kenya-U.S. Liaison Office, as well as staff from the Southern European Task Force (SETAF) and Exercise Justified Accord 2025 Participants. Additionally, distinguished participants from various organizations were present, contributing to the success of the occasion.

The opening ceremony marked the beginning of the exercise involving soldiers from different countries, including Kenya, the United States, Botswana, Burundi, Djibouti, Italy, the Republic of Congo, Angola, Somalia, Netherlands, Uganda, Malawi, Turkey, Kenya, Zambia, Tunisia, United Kingdom and Morrocco. Exercise Justified Accord 2025 marked a key step in strengthening readiness, enhancing collaboration, and improving interoperability.
