COLLABORATIVE TALKS WITH DIRECTORATE OF MILITARY TRAINING AND COOPERATION CANADA

On Tuesday 04 February 2025, IPSTC welcomed Mr. Pascal Ratte, the Deputy Director Directorate of Military Training and Cooperation (DMTC), Canada, with whom a productive discussion was held. During the meeting, he was provided with an in-depth overview of the Centre's activities, highlighting the key projects and initiatives undertaken over the years. There was also a reflection of the Centre's longstanding partnership with Canada, which has been in place since 2011.

The conversation also delved into exploring new avenues for collaboration. Various potential areas were discussed, where our partnership could evolve, including enhancing training programs, sharing best practices, and fostering greater cooperation in research and development by leveraging our strengths and aligning our strategic goals.

UNITED NATIONS POLICE ADVISOR VISITS UN POLICE COMMANDERS COURSE PARTICIPANTS

The United Nations (UN) Police Adviser, Police Commissioner Faisal Shahkar visited participants of the UN Police Commanders Course at the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC). During his visit, he engaged with the participants, emphasizing the significance of the course in shaping effective peacekeepers. He underscored the critical role of the three core components—military, police, and civilian personnel—working together in harmony to achieve shared objectives in peace operations. He also expressed his gratitude to the Government of Kenya and IPSTC for their unwavering support in facilitating the course, highlighting the vital role that partnerships play in strengthening global peacekeeping efforts.

In his address, Police Commissioner Shahkar stressed that the evolving nature of global peacekeeping demands skilled and collaborative leaders. He commended the course for equipping police officers with the essential leadership, strategic planning, and crisis management skills required in complex environments.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the course participants for their dedication to improving peace and security in their home countries and across the world. This interaction reaffirmed the UN's commitment to fostering professional development among peacekeeping forces.

VISIT BY ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF THE SECOND AFRICA DIVISION-MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS JAPAN

IPSTC held discussions with Mr. Hiroshi Seto, the Assistant Director of the Second Africa Division-Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan who was accompanied by the Defence Attaché Japan to Kenya Commander Kawashima Keiko.

During the meeting, Colonel C. Aritho, the Colonel Plans and Programmes, extended a warm welcome to Mr. Seto, highlighting Japan's longstanding support since 2011 and the significant impact this has had over the years. Mr. Seto was given a comprehensive presentation of the Centre and the IPSTC-Japan partnership.

In his remarks, Mr. Seto expressed sincere gratitude, acknowledging the positive influence of the Government of Japan’s contributions in the region. The meeting concluded with a group photo and the presentation of mementos.
