The Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) course is underway at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) in Embakasi. The course is sponsored by the Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HOAGDP) through the World Bank.
The Lead Facilitator, Major (Rtd) Chelelgo, in his address, articulated the primary aim of the course, which is to raise participantsβ awareness of the various dangerous situations they may encounter while operating in the field. He emphasized the critical need for individuals to be equipped with the knowledge and skills to identify potential threats, assess risks, and implement effective safety measures. By fostering a comprehensive understanding of these challenges, the course aims to empower participants to respond confidently and competently in high-risk environments, ensuring both their personal safety and the success of their missions.
Judith Kerich, Deputy Director HOAGDP, underscored the critical importance of the Hostile Environment Awareness Training course in enhancing the safety and preparedness of individuals operating in high-risk areas. She emphasized that the knowledge and skills imparted through the program are essential for both personal protection and the successful execution of duties in challenging environments.
Lieutenant Colonel S M Makau, Senior Instructor for Pre-Deployment Training at HPSS, underscored the paramount importance of the Hostile Environment Awareness Training in preparing participants to effectively manage and mitigate risks associated with high-threat environments. He emphasized that the course is instrumental in enhancing both personal safety and operational efficiency. He expressed sincere gratitude to the sponsors for their generous support, which made the successful implementation of this training program possible.
The course has brought together 26 participants from Kenya and China.
