The All Arms Search Training of Trainers Course was officially launched on 17th February 2025 at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) by Japan’s Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Hiroshi Matsuura.

The course, conducted in French, brings together participants from Rwanda and Cameroon to enhance their tactical expertise, modern search techniques, and situational awareness in mitigating threats. Colonel John Rongoei, Commandant HPSS, on behalf of Brigadier Joyce Sitienei, Director International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC), reaffirmed HPSS’s commitment to equipping trainees with these essential security skills. During the launch, H.E. Matsuura emphasized the critical role of counter Improvised Explosive Device Training (C-IED) capacity in peacekeeping operations and reaffirmed Japan’s strong support for the United Nations Triangular Partnership Programme (UNTPP). His visit also included a tree-planting ceremony, symbolizing Japan’s commitment to environmental sustainability and international cooperation.

Additionally, UNMAS (United Nations Mine Action Service) delivered a presentation highlighting their efforts in peacekeeping, special political missions, and humanitarian responses, as well as their role in providing technical and policy expertise to mitigate explosive threats.
The event concluded with a demonstration of the All Arms Search Course (AASC), showcasing practical search and detection techniques. Japan’s contributions to mine action and demining efforts were recognized as vital to regional security and sustainable development. These collaborations continue to strengthen peacekeeping operations, international partnerships, and counter-IED initiatives, ensuring a safer future for conflict-affected regions.
